RSS Viewer Demo

[Update Sept 17, 2009] RSS Viewer is now available in the App Store

In anticipation of the soon to be released RSS Viewer application for the iPhone featuring Push RSS, I have uploaded a video demoing some of the features of the application. Check it out including a highly anticipated that will be launched soon after the first release (hint: its Google Reader synchronization!)

Wow this is going to be the best rss reader on the appstore. im only going to get it once i can sync my google reader account on it though :-P

two points for improvement by what i can see from this video

    1. full rss title: most of the time people(me) just scan the title of the feed items, that would be very useful even if it brings some of the items to 3 or 4 line high.

    2. you already seem to be dealing with it but just in case how about pull notification with a message that says how many new feed items per half-hour or hour but with the normal full message alert for favorite feeds. so we dont drown in alerts. I get a couple hundred items a day id go nuts if i had a alert for every single one of them.

also get a less generic icon maybe just a overlaid arrow? how about… a stick figure(public bathroom door style) pushing another stick figure who is reading a newspaper? maybe too complicated anyways dittch that icon

  2. Thanks for the reply. We are working fast to get Google Reader support in including synchronization of feeds and possibly synchronization of tags (synchronization of read vs unread status will most likely not make it in due to the complexities involved, but we hope to work through that in a future update). We plan to release the app at $1.99 for the first version but may end up charging $2.99 for first time buyers of the second revision (purchasers of the first version can upgrade for free). The second version includes many more important features including Google Reader, Dynamic Keyword Support, Sharing Support, and Friends Support.

    1. We plan to offer an option to specify how many lines of text you prefer in a future version. We may bump that priority up based on your feedback.

    2. You can customize the notification rate and which feeds provide notifications. Currently the notification rate affects all the selected feeds as you can not yet do a feed by feed configuration (that is in our queue down the road though). In other words, you can have RSS Viewer send you an alert every 30 minutes and it will say “X number of Feeds Available” every 30 minutes based on the feeds you select for push notifications. This allows you to only receive push notifications for feeds you really care about and still be able to go into the app at any time to view all the other feeds.

    Thanks for the helpful feedback,

    Nicholas Hagen

Thanks for your app , just purchased.

I cant see any way for it to pop up notifications of new notifications on the home screen of iPhone when a new feed is updated (similar to what happens when you receive a new text message).

Is this possible or is it me just being impatient and none of my feeds have recently updated ? :)

Many thanks and keep up the great work

Nicholas , is there a way to have the announcements timestamped at all (preferably local time) ?

this is a neat app, i have been using inews and was very happy, but really wanted a push rss app like this. i have a few questions i was hoping you could answer for me though. first, is there a way to change the notification sound so that it doesnt default to a text message sound? second, what happens if a feed i want isnt found? is there a way to add it, and is there a reason why some feeds wouldnt be available for some reason? the one in particular that i am wanting was crackberry.com also, when a new feed comes in, will i just need to check the recent feeds section to see whats new? i noticed on your video that new feeds showed up in red and had a badge number on the bottom of the menu. i just got an update, and clicked view and it opened the app, but there were no feeds in red. i also didnt have the little badge indicating how many feeds were new inside of the app itself. thanks for all your hard work and for a cool app! i look forward to using it more.

Why can’t you just enter a feed’s URL and have it load those feeds? I visit a site often that has a few tick boxes that generates a rss URL for you so you can choose which content you want to subscribe to.

How about adding the option to ’select all read’ in notifications? As going to 1 by 1 thru the massive list of unimportant news isn’t really a short process..
